Liberty Humane Society Week 1

After several meetings and emails back and forth, I finally had a chance to start photographing dogs for the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City tonight. Turns out that its a bit difficult when you are working with dogs that don’t know their names and have no training for words like “Sit” or “Stay” or “Calm down please you are just a blur in the lens, mister”.
Tonto was the first one out, and he took about ten full minutes to stand and pee all over the ground. Things got a little easier from here, though. Here are some of my favorite shots of the evening, but click on any of the pictures to check out my set on flickr, where there are a lot more photos. These will soon be uploaded to the shelter’s site on Petfinder, with profiles for each.

I think his name is Sharky. He is the coolest!
I want all the baby dogs in the world.
Give them to me now.

    Hi Emily,

(Remember me?) Nice photos (I also saw your set on flickr)… If you don’t mind me asking, is this a voluntary project of yours? Are you going to be the official pet photographer for the LHS?

Thanks, and hope to hear more details from you, as I’m planning to post this on my blog.

PS. I’m not sure which channel you prefer to be contacted: via this blog or flickr?

Hi! Yes of course I remember. I am doing this as an ongoing volunteer project to help the animals get adopted. I responded to a listing on the society’s web site looking for a web photographer and its something I am going to be doing about once a week or so. Its nice to be able to help, because its something I love to do and I also love animals a lot!

You can contact me either way. Let me know if you have any further questions!
